The Games and Amusements Board (GAB) has summoned basketball player Daniel De Guzman, whose name recently floated on social media due to alleged ties to illegal gambling.

"We have already sent him a letter invitation to meet with the Games and Amusements Board. We have our legal division joining us and Gen. [Florendo] Quibuyen of the Anti-Illegal Gambling Unit. We want to make sure that the integrity in sports is intact. We understand that he has already denied it publicly, but we still want to talk to him and we want to look into it," GAB chief Baham Mitra told News5's Lyn Olavario in an interview.

"As I know he's not in the lineup of the San Miguel team and may not be our licensee, but still there's an effect on the league that we regulate and it is important to us that we protect the public and make sure that there is no game fixing in the Philippine Basketball Association," Mitra said.

Per Mitra, the professional sporting agency invited De Guzman to attend a meeting to be conducted by GAB's Professional Sports Division on Friday, 10 a.m., via Zoom.

If found guilty, De Guzman's pro license will be permanently revoked, according to Mitra.

Meanwhile, PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial said that the PBA is conducting its own investigation on the matter in close coordination with GAB.

"We have already discussed game-fixing because that's the mandate of [GAB]. I gave the other information that we have gathered," Marcial told Olavario.

Screenshots of a supposed Viber conversation showed a person alleged to be De Guzman, the 42nd overall pick of San Miguel in 2019, giving away betting tips to a friend in Nueva Ecija in exchange for a monetary reward.

However, the friend got irate when De Guzman allegedly gave the wrong tip in the San Miguel-Ginebra match last September 10, which the Beermen won 111-102.

De Guzman is not a listed player in the Beermen's roster, nor is he inside the closed-circuit bubble in Bacolor, Pampanga, but is penciled to play for their 3x3 squad.

In a report by SPIN.ph, De Guzman through agent Danny Espiritu, has denied the accusation.
