Twenty-two years after signing a brash 17-year-old rookie from Lower Merion High School named Kobe Bryant, adidas signed another Kobe.
The brand with three stripes signed Kobe Paras to a multi-year deal, which was revealed when he was introduced during the Donovan Mitchell press event on Sunday in Bonifacio Global City.
Paras joins an impressive list of basketball stars under the adidas banner with the likes of James Harden, Damian Lillard, and Donovan Mitchell who's currently in the country.
They also have a number international ballers in their fold such as Kristaps Porzingis of Latvia, Ricky Rubio of Spain, Thon Maker of Australia, and Andrew Wiggins of Canada.
During the news conference, Mitchell and Paras shared their own experiences of growing up in a sporting family.
"You learn how it's like to deal with a team," Mitchell, underlining the importance of getting training early.
"My dad proved that you can accomplish a lot even if you're a rookie," said Paras about his father Benjie who is the only Rookie of the Year who also won the Most Valuable Player in the same year.
"Even if you're a rookie, you can still achieve so much. When you're a rookie, you're expected to do things in a certain way but at the same time you also have to step out of your comfort zone," Paras added.
