Remember when Penny Hardaway was one of the best players in the league? I bet your kids don't.

No matter, for Hardaway -- age 39 and 12 years removed from his last All-Star team -- who hopes to sign with the Miami Heat. Since the Heat have only minimum salaries to offer, expect ball to imitate life, with a parade of retirees turning their eyes to South Florida.

If the Heat is interested in Penny, perhaps it should consider a few other Golden Guys:

Rick Mahorn and Moses Malone. 38 years of hard fouling experience, now with old-man strength.

Dale Ellis. Are you ever too old to shoot open jump shots? Or wear a box haircut?

Antoine Walker. Guaranteed All-Star. Three words: incentive-laden contract.

Juwan Howard. What do you mean, he's still in the league? And they really might sign him?

Kevin McHale. Contributed mightily to a championship just two years ago.

Glenn Robinson. The Heat has three stars, but none with a great nickname. Well, let the Big Dog eat!
