Four Filipinos have qualified for the last 16 of the U.S. Open Pool Championship 2021 in Atlantic City. Undefeated bets Dennis Orcollo and Johann Gonzales Chua were joined by Carlo Biado and Rodrigo Geronimo who both lost an earlier match and had to climb back from the loser's bracket to reach the competitions knockout stage.

Orcollo, Chua, and Rodrigo had a direct shot at a spot in the Last 16 as they were undefeated heading into Day 4 of the tournament. Rodrigo opened the campaign for the Philippines but he lost to Max Lechner, 11-2.

Orcollo then picked things up with an 11-6 win against Oliver Szolnoki followed by an 11-7 victory by Chua against Mieszko Fortunski.

Three Filipino cue artists tried to crawl from the loser's bracket and into the Last 16. Jeffrey De Luna gave the Philippine contingent an auspicious start as he defeated former World Champion Ralf "The Kaiser" Souquet of Germany, 11-3, in a match that the Filipino had in complete control.

Next up was Carlo Biado who scored an equally dominant 11-3 win against Daniel Schneider of Switzerland.

Roland Garcia was the first Filipino to absorb a defeat on Day 4 of the competitions. He challenged 2014 9-Ball World Champion Niels Feijen as best as he could before losing steam in the end and losing 11-8.

Unfortunately, one more Filipino was eliminated from the loser's bracket as De Luna and Biado were matched up against each other. Even with the momentum behind De Luna, Biado proved to be the steadier player as he picked up an 11-6 victory giving him a last-ditch opportunity for the Last 16 together with Geronimo.

Biado's confidence was sky-high as he defeated 2017 U.S. Open winner Jayson Shaw of Scotland, 11-8, to book a spot in the Last 16. Geronimo then exacted revenge for his compatriot Garcia as he eliminated Feijen, 11-6, as he also reached the knockout stage.

The stage is now set for the Last 16 and, luckily, no Filipinos will be matched up against each other early.

The top side of the bracket will feature Geronimo and Orcollo as they will be taking on Denis Grabe of Estonia and Mario He of Austria. The two Filipinos will only meet if they both qualify for the semifinals.

Chua and Biado are on the bottom side of the bracket and they will be facing off against John Morra of Canada and David Alcaide Bermudez of Spain, respectively. If Chua and Biado win their Last 16 matches, they will be opponents in the quarterfinals.

The action starts at 10:00 p.m. Philippine time.
