David McComb leads Miami (Ohio) to 24-21 victory over UConn

OXFORD, Ohio -- — David McComb threw for 312 yards and two touchdowns and added a rushing score as Miami (Ohio) rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat Connecticut 24-21 on Saturday.

McComb capped a 90-yard drive with a 10-yard touchdown run in the second quarter, then connected with Brendan Loftus for a 57-yard score to tie the game at 14 before halftime. Loftus, a redshirt freshman making a late start at tight end, finished with three catches for 72 yards.

McComb gave Miami (2-2) its first lead with an 11-yard touchdown pass to Scoop Smith late in the third quarter. UConn answered on Cyncir Bowers’ 1-yard touchdown run to tie it at 21.

UConn (2-2) scored twice in the first quarter, including Kalieb Osborne’s 38-yard touchdown run, before McComb led the RedHawks back. McComb left the game with an injury in the fourth quarter and did not return, leaving senior Caleb Heavner to take over at quarterback.

Brady Stidham made a 33-yard field goal with 1:58 remaining to put Miami ahead. UConn’s final possession ended after it failed to convert on fourth-and-10.

Osborne threw for 215 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 68 yards and a score.
