Scott scores 30-plus again, Texas Tech women beat No. 25 UT
LUBBOCK, Texas -- — Bre’Amber Scott scored 31 points, her second straight game with 30-plus, and Texas Tech beat No. 25 Texas 68-64 on Wednesday night for its third straight victory.
Texas Tech beat Texas for the third straight season, doing so for the first time since 2006-09. Tech also recorded a win over a top-25 team for the third consecutive season.
Scott, the reigning Big 12 player of the week after a 37-point performance on Saturday, was 8 of 18 from the field and 10 of 14 at the free-throw line. The Red Raiders needed Scott's free-throw shooting down the stretch as they made just one field goal in the final four minutes.
Texas got within 63-62 when DeYona Gaston grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back with 1:21 left. Jasmine Shavers made two free throws at the other end to extend Texas Tech’s lead to four points, and Scott made 3 of 4 free throws the rest of the way to seal it.
Kilah Freelon had a career-high 12 points and seven rebounds and Shavers finished with 10 points for Texas Tech (15-4, 3-3 Big 12).
Sonya Morris scored 17 points for Texas (13-6, 4-2). Rori Harmon had 12 points, nine assists and four steals and Shaylee Gonzales scored 10.
Texas Tech plays West Virginia on Saturday. Texas plays on Sunday at Baylor, which is unranked for the first time since 2004.
