Kayden Henry homers, drives in 4 as Texas shuts out Wisconsin 9-0 in tourney game

Kayden Henry and Reese Atwood each homered as the Texas Longhorns secured a dominant 9-0 victory over the Wisconsin Badgers in an Austin Regional NCAA softball tournament game Saturday. Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan was nearly untouchable, throwing five shutout innings to stifle the Badgers' offense.

Henry led the offensive charge for Texas (44-10), going 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Atwood was perfect at the plate, finishing 2-for-2 with a walk, a home run and two RBIs. Katie Stewart added a double, and Jaycie Nichols contributed an RBI single and a stolen base.

The Longhorns' pitching staff combined for a two-hit shutout. Kavan started and baffled Wisconsin hitters, allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out eight over five innings. Cambria Salmon pitched a scoreless sixth inning in relief, allowing one hit and striking out two.

Wisconsin (33-20) struggled to generate any offense, managing only two hits. Emily Bojan hit a double and Alivia Bark added a single for the Badgers. Starting pitcher Shelby Jacobson allowed five earned runs in 1⅓ innings.

Texas took control from the start, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly from Viviana Martinez and Atwood's two-run homer. The Longhorns extended their lead to 5-0 in the second when Henry hit a two-run double. They added two more runs in the third before Henry capped the scoring with a two-run home run in the sixth.
