This is the first time City have gone 1-0 behind on the opening weekend of a Premier League season since 2021-22 (vs Tottenham), while it's the first time since 1995-96 they have gone 1-0 down when opening the Premier League campaign with a home match (also vs Tottenham).

Bournemouth forward Evanilson is perhaps fortunate not to receive a booking after a late shove into the back of Anderson on the halfway line. A yellow card could've easily been shown to the Brazilian there.

City think they should have a penalty after a coming together between Smith and Semenyo down the left. Semenyo does well to drive at the Cherries full-back, who does then have a tug at the left arm of the City winger, but there's not enough in it for a spot-kick to be awarded. Smith took a risk there, though.

Bournemouth have avoided defeat in their last nine matches when scoring first in the Premier League, since a 3-2 loss to Arsenal in January. City have a lot to do if they're to turn this around.
