Ats Purje's late winner clinched a 1-0 victory for Estonia as they began their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign by beating 10-man Slovenia.

The midfielder had only been on the pitch two minutes before he struck from close range to hand the hosts the perfect start in Group E.

Dalibor Stevanovic had earlier been sent off for Slovenia for a second bookable offence at the A. Le Coq Arena.

The teams played each other in qualification for Euro 2012 when Slovenia won 1-0 in Tallinn before Estonia gained revenge with a 2-1 win in June 2011.

But neither qualified for the tournament, with Estonia beaten 5-1 by the Republic of Ireland in the play-offs.

Estonia, who lost 2-0 to Sweden in a friendly last week, had the better of the first half and Henri Anier headed their best chance over after 24 minutes.

Milivoje Novakovic nodded over for Slovenia with 19 minutes left but an even game changed when Stevanovic walked on 80 minutes.

And six minutes later Purje pounced from six yards to win it for the hosts and gibe their qualifying campaign the best possible start.
