Man United net late equaliser to end Man City's perfect WSL record

Elisabeth Terland struck a superb late leveller to give Manchester United a 1-1 Women's Super League derby draw against Manchester City.

Terland struck in the final minute at a blustery Leigh Village to end City's 100% league record and allow Chelsea -- 3-1 winners at Crystal Palace on Sunday -- to take over at the top.

Khadjia Shaw had earlier marked her 100th WSL appearance with a customary finish midway through the second half, but City were left to rue Grace Clinton's bad miss four minutes from time.

Lauren Hemp, seeking her 100th WSL goal involvement for City, brought an early save from Phallon Tullis-Joyce before Aoba Fujino whistled a snapshot just wide.

United had a glorious chance to break the deadlock after 39 minutes when Jess Park played a delicious pass to Andrea Medina.

The Spanish left-back squared to Terland, who was in front of goal, but the Norwegian made a poor connection for Ayaka Yamashita to collect.

Terland was wasteful again 10 minutes after the break when she broke beyond Alex Greenwood and sent a shot straight at Yamashita.

After Park had clipped the City crossbar from 20 yards, Shaw raced clear from halfway, cut back on her left foot to evade a challenge, and brought a fine stop from Tullis-Joyce.

It was a warning United did not heed as Shaw accepted Mary Fowler's pass with her back to goal after 66 minutes.

United seemed to have the situation under control, but Shaw turned quickly to drill a shot through the legs of Dominique Janssen for her 91st WSL goal.

Shaw had scored for the seventh consecutive WSL game, but it was not enough for the three points after Terland hammered home after City failed to defend Maya Le Tissier's ball deep in to their box.
