Olise double sees Bayern cruise in German Cup as Kane rested

Bayern Munich did not need the services of Ballon d'Or winner Harry Kane and left the England captain on the bench as they cruised to a 6-1 German Cup victory over second-division side Magdeburg on Wednesday.

Michael Olise and Ismael Saibari were on target in the first half as Munich went into the interval 2-1 up and an Olise penalty and further goals from Alphonso Davies, Nathaniel Brown and David Santos Daiber wrapped it up.

Mateusz Zukowski had levelled for the visitors with a fine strike from distance.

Bayern Munich went ahead in the 10th minute with a smart move that carved Magdeburg open. Lennart Karl's precise throughball sent Saibari clean through the middle and after he drew goalkeeper Dominik Reimann he rolled the ball across to the supporting Olise, who had the easiest of tasks to finish into the empty net.

However, the lead only last five minutes before the visitors were level when Zukowski picked the ball up wide on the left flank and cut inside on to his right foot and fired an unstoppable effort beyond Jonas Urbig into the far corner of the net.

Olise returned the favour as Bayern retook the lead with 21 minutes on the clock. The former Crystal Palace frontman spotted the run of Saibari and his pass through was inch-perfect for the Morocco midfielder to lift over the advancing Reimann and into the net.

Olise doubled his tally five minutes after the interval when he converted from the penalty spot after Davies was brought down in the box.

Bayern then put the game to bed as the second-tier side ran out of steam.

Karl broke clear on the right side of the box and his ball across the face of goal was converted by Davies at the back post in the 70th minute and Brown pounced on a loose ball to steer home a left-footed shot with 73 minutes gone.

Portugal Under-20 international Santos Daiber added a sixth in stoppage time.
