Liverpool cruise past Huddersfield Town, win 4th straight friendly

Everything was in order at home just hours before Liverpool go on their travels as they recorded their fourth straight win of the preseason with a 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town on Wednesday night.

Marko Grujic and Alberto Moreno scored the goals at the John Smith's Stadium as Jurgen Klopp's side edged his long-time friend David Wagner's Championship outfit. Liverpool travelled to the United States immediately after the game to continue their summer schedule.

Grujic returned to the lineup having missed Sunday's meeting with Wigan Athletic due to illness, while, Klopp continued with the interchangeable front three of Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mane supporting Roberto Firmino up top.

The game started at a frantic pace for a preseason friendly with both teams harassing each other into submission of the ball on a frequent basis. Liverpool did have the ball in the back of the net when Mane pressured goalkeeper Joel Coleman into a mistake, but the referee adjudged that the Senegal international committed a foul.

However, Liverpool finally broke the deadlock when Grujic netted his second goal of the summer with a well-taken finish. They almost doubled their lead seconds later, only for Coutinho to miss a spot kick after Mane was brought down by Coleman -- following an exquisite move from the trio upfront that will have Klopp drooling at this stage of the campaign.

With both sides making a number of changes at the break, the second half didn't match the intensity of the opening 45 minutes. The most exciting action from a Liverpool point of view came when young goalkeeper Shamal George made his Liverpool debut as a striker.

The visitors had no other outfield substitutes in the 65th minute so the 18-year-old was brought on as a replacement for the injured Lucas Leiva. There were calls from the travelling support to let George take a penalty in the dying seconds, but Moreno stepped up and slotted home.
