Red Bull NY v NYCFC
New York Red Bulls thrash New York City FC in Hudson River Derby
The New York Red Bulls brushed aside Hudson Derby rivals New York City FC 4-0, outclassing the Eastern Conference table-toppers all over the field at Red Bull Arena.
A pair of defensive miscues had the hosts up 2-0 before the five-minute mark, with Alejandro Romero "Kaku" Gamarra knocking in the rebound from a Bradley Wright-Phillips rebound before setting up Florian Valot, whose 18-yard shot took a lucky deflection and landed in the back of Sean Johnson's net.
The Red Bulls continued to dominate the first half and found their third before the break when Wright-Phillips headed in a Kaku cross after a nice bit of build up from Jesse Marsch's side.
The strike was Wright-Phillips 11th in 10 games against NYCFC -- his most against any team in the league -- as the Red Bulls took a 3-0 lead to the dressing room.
The Red Bulls continued to dominate the second half and never let Patrick Vieira's team back in the match, with Derrick Etienne taking advantage of more sloppy NYCFC defending and adding his team's fourth goal of the day from close range.
