Washington Spirit salvage late draw against San Diego Wave FC
The Washington Spirit, led by a last-minute goal from Croix Bethune, secured a 1-1 draw against San Diego Wave FC at Audi Field on Saturday. Jaedyn Shaw's strike in the 20th minute had given the visitors the lead, assisted by María Sánchez.
The Spirit (9-1-3) made an early substitution as Ashley Hatch replaced Gabrielle Carle due to injury just before halftime. They struggled to break down San Diego's defense in the second half.
As time ticked away, it seemed like San Diego (3-5-4) would hold on for victory until Bethune struck from inside the box to tie it up.
