Samford uses big 1st half to defeat The Citadel 107-91
CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Demetrius Denzel-Dyson and Triston Chambers combined for 11 3-pointers and 50 points and Samford used a big first half to race to a 107-91 win over The Citadel in a battle of Bulldogs on Thursday night.
Denzel-Dyson had 16 of his 26 points in the first half when Samford (7-10, 3-1 Southern Conference) made 10 of 16 3-pointers and 19 of 29 shots overall, opening a 55-31 lead.
Samford took control midway through the first half when Justin Coleman hit three 3s and scored nine points of his 13 in a 13-0 run that made it 37-19.
Denzel-Dyson was 10 of 14 overall, 5 of 8 from distance while Chambers was 6 of 8 behind the arc and 8 of 11 overall. Alex Thompson added 14 points and Coleman had 13 assists.
Zane Najdawi had 21 points, 19 in the second half, for The Citadel (5-11, 0-4) with Alex Reed adding 19 and Matt Frierson 18.
