Nelson, Flavors hit 4 3s each; Fairfield beats Siena 78-65
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- Tyler Nelson hit four 3-pointers and finished with 27 points and Ferron Flavors Jr. scored 13 of his 16 points in the second half to help Fairfield beat Siena 78-65 on Monday night for its third win in a row.
Nelson moved past Joe DeSantis (1975-79) into second on Fairfield's career scoring list with 1,941 points and coach Sydney Johnson earned his 100th win with the Stags.
Nelson hit a 3-pointer to spark an 18-8 spurt that spanned halftime and made it 46-36 with 14 minutes to play. Flavors, who was just 1-of-7 shooting in the first half, hit three 3s in that stretch and Fairfield (10-13, 5-7 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference) led by at least seven points the rest of the way.
Nelson scored seven points during a 9-2 run that pushed the lead into double figures for good with nine minutes left.
Khalil Richard had 16 points, Ahsante Shivers scored 14 and Prince Oduro 11 for Siena (7-18, 3-9).
The Stags committed a season-low six turnovers.
