Marshall Thundering Herd @ Charlotte 49ers
Burks scores 33 to help Marshall beat Charlotte 91-83
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- C.J. Burks scored a career-high 33 points on 12-of-19 shooting and Jon Elmore had 19 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals to help Marshall beat Charlotte 91-83 on Thursday night.
Burks and Elmore each made 4 of 7 from 3-point range. Rondale Watson tied his career best with 20 points for Marshall (12-5, 3-1 Conference USA), which was without Ajdin Penava due to an injury suffered in Saturday's loss to Western Kentucky. The 6-9 forward averages 16.7 points, 9.1 rebounds (26th in Division I) and 4.8 blocks (No. 1).
Burks scored nine points during a 14-4 run that spanned halftime gave the Herd a 46-38 early in the second half and Watson had 10 points in fewer than six minutes to help push the lead to 14 points with 6:22 remaining. Andrien White's 3-pointer trimmed Charlotte's deficit to 79-74 about three minutes later but the 49ers got no closer.
Jon Davis scored a career-high -- and Halton Arena record -- 38 points for Charlotte (5-10, 1-3). Jailan Haslem added 10 points and 11 rebounds, both career bests.
