Quinnipiac coasts to a 67-58 win over Siena in MAAC opener
ALBANY, N.Y. -- Rich Kelly scored 18 points, Jacob Rigoni had 17 and No. 7 Quinnipiac used a 24-point first half lead to earn a 67-58 win over No. 10 Siena in a first-round game in the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Conference tournament Thursday night at Times Union Center in Albany, New York.
Quinnipiac (11-20) advances to face No. 2 seed Canisius Friday in a quarterfinal-round game.
Siena holds an 8-4 lead all-time in the head-to-head series with the Bobcats, but Quinnipiac won both games during the regular season, by a total of eight points, and now have won three straight.
The Saints (8-24) stormed back in the second half, but could get no closer than an eight-point deficit, 63-55 with 1:29 left.
Rigoni hit 5 of 8 from beyond the 3-point arc. Cameron Young scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Bobcats.
Khalil Richard scored a dozen points and Jordan Horn added another 10 points for Siena.
