Richmond jumps out early, cruises past High Point 74-59
WASHINGTON -- Nathan Cayo scored 20 points, Grant Golden had 19 points and 12 rebounds and Richmond beat High Point 74-59 on Saturday.
The Spiders (5-7) have won three of their last five games following a four-game losing streak and snapped a four-game skid on the road. High Point (6-6) broke a three-game winning streak.
Cayo was 7 of 8 from the floor and Golden was 5-of-8 shooting. Jacob Gilyard chipped in with 18 points for Richmond, which shot 50 percent from the field and made 24 of 28 (86 percent) of its free throws.
Jahaad Proctor scored 23 points to lead High Point.
The Spiders had a double-digit lead midway through the first half and a 39-25 advantage at the break. The Panthers pulled to 51-41 but didn't get closer.
Richmond stays on the road for its next two games, against South Alabama and Dayton, before returning home for Rhode Island on Jan. 9. High Point travels to face No. 15 Ohio State on Saturday.
