Slimp's walk-off homer lifts UCLA past UCF in super regional

Rylee Slimp hit a walk-off, three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to cap a six-run frame and give UCLA a 9-1 run-rule victory over UCF on Friday at Easton Stadium in Los Angeles in the opener of the Los Angeles Super Regional.

Bri Alejandre, who went 1-for-1 with three runs scored, started the scoring with a solo home run in the second inning for UCLA. Kaniya Bragg broke the game open in the fifth inning with a three-run homer and finished 1-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Starting pitcher Taylor Tinsley tossed a complete game, allowing one run on three hits while striking out two over five innings.

Sierra Humphreys provided the lone run for UCF with a homer in the fifth inning. Aubrey Evans added a double, and Ashleigh Griffin singled for the Knights' only other hits.

UCLA took a 1-0 lead in the second on Alejandre's homer. The Bruins extended their lead to 3-0 in the fourth on Berry's RBI groundout and Suarez's RBI double. After Humphreys' home run cut the deficit to 3-1 in the fifth, Bragg hit a three-run shot to push the lead to 6-1 before Slimp ended the game with her three-run blast to right field, securing the Bruins' 29th run-rule victory of the season, breaking the program record.
