Commentary
Hurzeler's men have been in total control today. They've seen four of their 10 shots fly on target and have played above their 1.46 xG with aplomb, as both momentum and possession have firmly been in the Seagulls' clutches. The depleted Bees have really lacked any sort of sting, and that has been in large part down to Thiago's moment of madness and the intensity of Brighton's press. Andrews' side have been in survival mode for much of the first half, yet will at least want some sort of reaction, as their meagre 0.39 xG has followed zero shots on target from three attempts. At the time of writing, Brighton are cruising with a 97.7% chance of victory according to the Opta Supercomputer. A draw comes in at just 1.9%, while a Brentford turnaround is even less likely at 0.3%.
Into the break at the Amex and Brighton comfortably lead 10-man Brentford 2-0. A goal right out of the top draw opened the scoring in this one, as Gomez took the ball down from the heavens and pinged it perfectly on the half-volley into the top-left corner in the 15th minute. Seven minutes later, Thiago received his marching orders after lashing out at Andres following a foul. His forearm to the Spaniard's face after an initial shirt-pull brought a bloody lip for the receiver and saw the Brazilian's yellow card upgraded to red via the VAR team. Brighton continued really confidently after this, yet would only double their lead right before the break as Lewis-Potter hauled Vuskovic to the turf inside the area at a corner. Gross stepped up and curled a peach of a penalty into the top-right corner for 2-0, turning an uphill challenge into a mountain to climb for Andrews' side.
HALF-TIME: BRIGHTON 2-0 BRENTFORD
Between minutes 30 and 45, 55.9% of the action was in the Brentford defensive third. The Bees have really been stifled so far this afternoon.
As an additional four minutes are signalled, Brighton's corner is half-cleared by Ouattara before the visitors win a throw-in inside their own half.
AYARI! The Swede shoots from range, and Kelleher has to palm the dipping effort away from the left side of the goal!
