NC Central tops Delaware St. 65-62 behind Jones at FT line
DOVER, Del. -- Alston Jones scored 13 points with four free throws in the last 61 seconds and North Carolina Central beat Delaware State 65-62 on Wednesday in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference opener.
Kavon Waller made a 3 and pair of free throws with for a 56-55 Delaware State lead with 4:35 left. Jones responded with a pair of free throws to give the Eagles the lead, and after Jonathan Walker's miss, Jones followed his own missed jump shot and tipped it in for a 59-56 lead. Raasean Davis made 1 of 2 for a four-point margin.
Jones made all six of his free throws, Reginald Gardner Jr., also scored 13 and Davis and Jordan Perkins each chipped in 10 points for North Carolina Central (7-8, 1-0).
Artem Tavakalyan led Delaware State (2-14, 0-1) with 15 points, Waller had 13 and Johquin Wiley had 10.
