DAYTON, Ohio -- Obi Toppin scored 19 on 8-of-10 shooting, Ryan Mikesell had 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Dayton beat Coppin State 76-46 on Saturday night.
The Flyers (2-0) dominated both halves, leading by as much as 25 before the intermission and extending the lead to 76-37 before the Eagles (0-2) closed the game on a 9-0 run. It was the first time since a 67-46 win over Saint Louis on January 22, 2017, that the Flyers held an opponent under 50 points.
Jordan Davis added 13 points for Dayton, which shot 30 of 61 from the field. The Flyers struggled from the 3-point line, making only 4 of 22, but Coppin State was even worse from long range at 3 of 24 and shot 29.6 percent (16 of 54) overall from the field.
Dejuan Clayton led the Eagles with 13 points.
