Elmore, Penava lead Marshall past Florida Atlantic 79-68
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Jon Elmore tallied 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists and Ajdin Penava notched his 12th double-double of the season to guide Marshall to a 79-68 victory over Florida Atlantic on Saturday night.
Elmore buried four 3-pointers as the Thundering Herd (17-8, 8-4 Conference USA) connected on 12 of 37 attempts from distance. Penava finished with 16 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and three blocked shots, while Rondale Watson had 18 points and nine boards. C.J. Burks scored 12 with five assists as Marshall picked up its third straight win.
Ronald Delph paced the Owls (10-15, 4-9) with 21 points and 11 rebounds for his seventh double-double of the season. Justin Massey scored 12 and William Pfister snagged 14 rebounds for Florida Atlantic, which shot just 34 percent from the floor. The Owls have lost four in a row.
FAU knotted the score at 55 on a Gerdarius Troutman 3-pointer midway through the second half, but Watson's 3-point play and a layup by Jannson Williams gave the Thundering Herd the lead for good.
