LORMAN, Miss. -- — Dekedran Thorn's 16 points helped Alcorn State defeat Bethune-Cookman 69-54 on Saturday night.
Thorn shot 6 for 10, including 2 for 5 from beyond the arc for the Braves (8-17, 7-5 Southwestern Athletic Conference). Jeremiah Gambrell scored 13 points while going 5 of 10 (3 for 7 from 3-point range). Byron Joshua was 5 of 10 shooting and 2 of 3 from the free throw line to finish with 12 points, while adding eight rebounds and seven assists.
Reggie Ward Jr. finished with 27 points for the Wildcats (12-13, 7-5). Zion Harmon added 11 points and three steals for Bethune-Cookman. Jakobi Heady also had seven points, seven rebounds and three steals.
These two teams both play Monday. Alcorn State hosts Florida A&M and Bethune-Cookman visits Jackson State.
