DLSU secures services of 6-0 point guard Penny Estacio

FEU-Diliman playmaker Penny Estacio has committed to De La Salle University, he told ESPN5.com Monday.

The point guard now standing at 6-feet is one of the most coveted recruits from UAAP boys basketball, drawing offers from at least three other UAAP and NCAA schools.

"A lot of schools offered, pero La Salle was very promising. They told me that not only do they want me now, they want me to be their future," expressed Estacio. "Of course, coach Derrick [Pumaren] is a guard-oriented coach and with [Evan] Nelle and [Mark] Nonoy as my seniors, I'm sure I will grow as a player."

In his final year in high school, the 18-year-old led the Baby Tamaraws in scoring with 15.1 points, while also averaging 5.2 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.1 steals.

For his part, La Salle's new mentor confirmed the development and added that the team is looking at the big guard as one of their long-term building blocks.

"He will be one of our future point guards," mentioned Pumaren in a text message.

Estacio's commitment is the latest in a line of promising prospects who have signified their intention of playing for the Green Archers.

Pumaren previously confirmed that La Salle had secured the services of 6-foot-4 Fil-Am Deschon Winston. In this prolonged offseason, they have already welcomed transfers Nelle from San Beda and Nonoy from UST as well as commits Kevin Quiambao from NU-Nazareth, Jonnel Policarpio from Mapua, Raven Cortez from La Salle Zobel, CJ Austria from UE, Emman Galman from Perpetual, and Ice Blanco-Hontiveros from University of Cebu.
