How to watch NBA games in the Philippines

NBA basketball is officially returning to Philippine television, and access to the hottest action has never been easier and more varied.

Thanks to a three-year deal inked by the NBA and Cignal TV, games will be aired on free-to-air channels TV5 and One Sports, and on pay TV through NBA TV Philippines, Cignal's exclusive channel for premium and postpaid subscribers.

Here's a quick outline of the league's deal.

When will the NBA broadcast its games in the Philippines again?

Beginning July 31, games will be aired on Cignal TV, TV5 and One Sports. The first game of the 2019-20 season restart, which will be between the Utah Jazz and New Orleans Pelicans, will be shown live on NBA TV Philippines. The Lakers-Clippers game will be shown on NBA TV Philippines and One Sports as well.

How many games are available on free TV?

Two games each will be aired on TV5 and One Sports (channel 41 on free TV, channel 6 on Cignal TV) per week. TV5 will show games on Saturdays and Sundays. On One Sports, games are live on Fridays and Mondays.

How about on pay TV?

Cignal TV will be launching NBA TV Philippines, its own version of an exclusive channel for subscribers of certain prepaid and postpaid plans. The channel, unlike TV5 and One Sports, will carry replays. An average of two games will be aired every day.

What plans are available for Cignal TV subscribers?

According to Guido Zaballero, the Cignal's First Vice President and head of marketing, NBA TV Philippines will be made available on standard definition and high definition for the postpaid subscriber base of Plans 520 and up. For prepaid subscribers, Load 600 and up will get the HD feed, while Load 450 will get the SD feed. NBA TV PH will also be made available "ala carte" across all Cignal brands.

Will other cable providers carry NBA TV, too?

Yes, depending on negotiations. Cignal and TV5 President and CEO Robert Galang said Cignal TV will "definitely offer" NBA for syndication to other cable operators.

Will NBA games be available on mobile?

Yes, they will also be available on mobile. Cignal Play, the channel's mobile app, carries One Sports and TV5. Smart will also provide mobile users access to NBA content. Smart and TNT prepaid subscribers will have to avail of the GIGA VIDEO packs, while postpaid subscribers can get the NBA content free if they are on either the Signature or Infinity plan. NBA League Pass is also still available.
