Week 3 of the Rocket League Championship Series is in the books. As teams get further into the season, the best separate from the rest, so here's a look at how the competition stacks up.
Note: Power rankings are starting fresh in RLCS, and will only be based off results in official RLCS competition.
North America
1. G2 Esports 3-0 match record | (9-2) game record
G2 looked good this week with a 3-0 sweep of Selfless. This G2 lineup looks to be the top dog in North America, but the Week 5 matchup with NRG will be the decider.
2. NRG eSports 3-0 | (9-2)
NRG took down Denial 3-0 and solidified its second-place seeding and the matchup with G2 looks to be by far the biggest of the season. NRG look to have a top-two seed on lockdown if its form continues as it has so far.
3. Selfless Gaming 4-2 | (11-10)
Selfless had an off day, dropping to both Atelier and G2. While this is a return to reality for Selfless, the team already has a playoff spot locked. With G2 and NRG looking to have the top two spots held down, it's time for Selfless to look improve ahead of the playoffs.
4. Atelier 3-2 | (12-9)
Atelier took a very expected 3-0 victory over SetToDestroyX and an upset win over Selfless to move into the top four. In the early race for the fourth spot from North America to the International Finals, Atelier looks to be in a great spot.
5. Denial Esports 2-2 | (8-9)
Denial got swept by NRG and didn't manage to score once in any of the three games. It's beginning to feel like a clear top and bottom four and Denial will hope to climb out of the bottom half in its next matches versus Genesis and Atelier. The win over SetToDestroyX will do little to offset the slow start from Denial.
6. Take 3 1-2 | (5-6)
7. Genesis 1-2 | (5-6)
8. SetToDestroyX 0-6 | (2-18)
SetToDestroyX are locked out of the playoffs and are just looking to find any win, anywhere.
Key match of Week 3
Selfless Gaming versus Atelier: Selfless came into Week 3 flying high and was cut down quickly. The 3-2 loss to Atelier generates questions as to whether or not Selfless is a top team. Atelier, on the other hand, seems to keep getting better and better. If this form keeps up, Atelier will be right in the mix for an International Finals spot at the end of the season.
Europe
1. Pocket Aces 3-0 | (9-3)
2. Northern Gaming 2-1 | (8-6)
Northern Gaming took down Mock-it Esports 3-1 in what was a very comfortable win, and it looks like this team is cementing itself as a top-of-the-table squad.
3. FlipSid3 Tactics 2-1 | (8-6)
FlipSid3 Tactics kept pace with Northern with a solid 3-1 win over Cow Nose. FlipSid3's matches versus Northern and Pocket Aces will be huge.
4. The Leftovers 4-1 | (12-11)
The Leftovers fell to back to Earth. A 3-0 sweep at the hands of Penta before barely getting past Cow Nose 3-2 means Leftovers falls to fourth and has a lot to prove to move back up the rankings.
5. Penta Sports 2-4 | (12-14)
Penta is hard to rank this week, losing to Mock-it but beating The Leftovers. If this team wants to make playoffs, consistency will be the name of the game.
6. Mock-it Esports 2-3 | (10-11)
Mock-it lost to a very good Northern Gaming side and took down Penta, which leaves Mock-it in the same place... right at the bottom of the playoff barrel.
7. Resonant Esports 1-2 | (6-7)
8. Cow Nose 1-5 | (10-16)
Cow Nose lost to both FlipSid3 and The Leftovers, and while neither result is unexpected, Cow Nose confirmed that it likely belongs at the bottom of the standings.
Key match of Week 3
Northern versus Mock-it: Northern needed a strong showing after its week off and a 3-1 win over Mock-it is exactly what the doctor ordered. Wins over teams such as Mock-it will keep Northern in the conversation for a top two spot. For Mock-it, the loss has to be disheartening as a win would hint at a potential rise to the top half of league.
