Maurizio Arrivabene sets Kimi Raikkonen some 'homework'

Ferrari boss Maurizio Arrivabene has tasked Kimi Raikkonen with improving his qualifying pace after another race weekend where the No.7 Ferrari failed to fulfil its potential.

Raikkonen has only qualified on the front two rows of the grid once this year, despite team-mate Sebastian Vettel managing to do so at every round so far. In the races Raikkonen has often been much closer to his Ferrari team-mate, but getting through traffic and making the most of the Ferrari's pace has proved difficult.

"The problem of Kimi is qualifying," Arrivabene said. "At certain points of the race he was the same pace as Seb. Sometimes it's like that in qualifying because he got some traffic, but it's also true that he had a very big gap to the cars in front of him.

"If he is going to improve in qualifying then he will have no problems in the race because we know Kimi in the race is super and he can do a good job. If I have to give him some homework, he has to write 100 times 'I have to be better in qualifying'."

Raikkonen showed signs of frustration with his qualifying performances over the Monaco Grand Prix weekend.

"We seem to manage to get it wrong every race, so we need to work on something to try to improve it," Raikkonen said. "We don't put ourselves in very good positions for Sundays and obviously it makes our races difficult. Obviously when you are stuck behind you spend time trying to get past cars and then you miss out on the fight at the front. But it's part of the game."
