Sergio Perez walked away unharmed from a spectacular flip in first practice for the Hungarian Grand Prix after appearing to suffer a rear suspension failure.
With 30 minutes remaining of the session, Perez ran across the artificial grass on the exit of Turn 11 and was pitched into the opposite wall. He hit the crash barrier, and his dislodged right tyre flipped the Force India onto its roof as he slid back onto the road.
Replays showed a failure at the right rear suspension of the Force India. Perez immediately confirmed he was unhurt on the radio and climbed out of his car, with the Mexican making a customary trip to the medical centre.
Seeing Perez climb from the car was a relief for all watching with the loss of Jules Bianchi hanging over the Hungaroring paddock this weekend.
Asked if he was OK by the BBC after the crash, Perez said: "Yes, thanks, everything okay. I went on the astroturf and the track is so dirty at the moment that I lost the rear end of the car and went into the wall."
Perez's crash triggered red flags in the session which disrupted most drivers' longer runs. Force India is yet to confirm what the failure was or whether it will have any impact on team-mate Nico Hulkenberg's car.
