Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes picked up their championship trophies at the FIA's annual prize-giving in Paris on Friday night, while Max Verstappen was honoured with three awards in his rookie year.
Hamilton won his third F1 title at the U.S. Grand Prix in October after Mercedes dominated another year in the sport and took the constructors' crown in Russia. After being awarded with the trophy for the second year in a row, Hamilton reflected on his year and career to date.
"It's pretty much impossible to put into words what it means to be a three-time world champion," Hamilton said. "It is a dream, it's an incredible feeling and I'm very proud of my family for everything they did to get me here today.
"I remember how hard my Dad and my Mum worked to make sacrifices for me. It's been a long, long journey - I've been racing for 22 years. This year, winning the race in Austin and sealing the championship there was one of the most special races - there's a huge sense of pride in what I have achieved."
Verstappen collected the Rookie of the Year award, voted for by the FIA Drivers' Commission, the Personality of the Year, voted by the media, and Action of the Year, voted for by the public for his overtaking move around the outside of Felipe Nasr's Sauber at Blanchimont corner in the Belgian Grand Prix this year.
