Leicester City have opened talks with goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel over a new long-term deal, a source close to the club has told ESPN FC.
Schmeichel was one of Leicester's star performers in their unlikely 2015-16 Premier League title success, playing every minute of the campaign and keeping 15 clean sheets in the process.
Leicester's owners are keen to reward their top players for their success with new deals and ward off potential suitors from trying to lure away their stars.
Barcelona have been credited with an interest in Denmark international Schmeichel, but Leicester are determined to secure the goalkeeper's future as they plan for next season in the Champions League.
Schmeichel still has two years to run on his current contract at the King Power Stadium, but Leicester are preparing to offer the former Manchester City youngster a new lucrative five-year deal.
Leicester are also closing in on a deal to bring Germany goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler to the club as cover and competition to No.1 Schmeichel.
The Foxes have activated Zieler's release clause at Hannover and the player has already undergone a medical at Leicester as they look to secure his signature.
