Brendan Gan, Shahrom Kalam passed fit for Malaysia's Asian Cup playoff

Malaysia have received a boost ahead of Monday night's AFC Asian Cup playoff against Timor-Leste with the news that defender Shahrom Kalam and midfielder Brendan Gan have been passed fit to play.

Both players suffered niggling injuries in last Thursday night's 3-0 victory over the Timorese in the first leg. But assistant coach Brad Maloney confirmed to ESPN FC that the pair will be available for the re-match with the visitors from Dili.

The game will again be played at Johor Bahru's Larkin Stadium, home of AFC Cup and Malaysia Super League champions, JDT.

Shahrom, who has helped Malaysia keep three consecutive clean sheets, suffered a hamstring injury last Thursday while Brendan took a heavy knock to his ankle and was replaced by Amri Yahyah with five minutes left.

Goalkeeper Izham Tarmizi Roslan has also been cleared to play, despite receiving treatment for a recurring ankle injury.

The game's kickoff time has been pushed back to 10pm to accommodate the first day of Ramadan. The Malaysian players will break fast together at their base at the Thistle Hotel in Johor Bahru before heading to the stadium.

Head coach Ong Kim Swee said that he had no concerns about the energy levels of his players.

"I think this will pose no problem to the players because they have played in the fasting month for their clubs and country last season," he told the Football Association of Malaysia website.

"We have nutritionists from ISN [national sports institute] helping the team. So we should know what the players can eat during the breaking of fast [about three hours before kickoff]."

Timor-Leste haven't won an international match since March 2015 when they defeated Mongolia 1-0 in a first round AFC World Cup qualifier.
