Gaurav Kalra reacts to another failure for the Indian shooting contingent as Heena Sidhu finishes 14th in the 10m Air Pistol event at Rio (1:48)

Indian shooters' poor run spilled into the second day of competition at the Rio Olympics with Heena Sidhu being eliminated in the 10m air pistol qualifying round with a 14th place finish and total score of 380 on Sunday.

The qualifying round had 40 shots, divided into batches of 10 in four series, being fired in 50 minutes and the top eight among the 44 shooters making the final. She will next compete in the women's 25m pistol qualifying round on August 9.

The 26-year-old started with a 10 in her first series and finished with a score of 94. She holds the finals world record in 10 m air pistol with a score of 203.8 and became the first Indian female pistol shooter to be ranked world no. 1 in 2014.

With 57 from six shots and a 27th position a little more than halfway through the second, she ended with a cumulative score of 95, a 28th spot and an uphill road for a top-eight position. Into the fourth series and she needed nothing less than 10s all the way to stand a chance for qualifying. All she could manage though was a score of 95 in the fourth, closing the door on her qualifying chances.

A gold medal in the 10m air pistol event at the Asia Olympic qualifiers in January this year won her the Olympic quota. She had finished 12th in the women's 10m air pistol event at the London Olympics.
