Indian archer Laxmirani Majhi failed to advance in the women's individual 1/32 elimination round, losing to Slovakia's Alexandra Longova 7-1 at the Rio Olympics on Monday.

Losing the first two sets 27-28 and 28-26, she started with a seven before rounding off with a 10 and a total score of 26 in the third. With the Slovakian too posting an identical score, Laxmirani was left trailing 1-5. Beginning the fourth set with yet another seven, the Indian finished with 24 points, three shy of Alexandra's 27, to end her Olympic campaign.

In the elimination round, each archer shoots three arrows in each set with the winner of a set being awarded two points. In the instance of scores being tied in a set, the points are split. The archer who touches six points first wins the match.

The 27 year-old won a silver medal at the world archery championships in Copenhagen last year to qualify for the Games. In the ranking round, Laxmirani had finished 43rd in the ranking round, the lowest among the Indian archers.

The Indian women's team comprising Laxmirani, Bombayla Devi and Deepika Kumari lost to Russia in the quarterfinals on Sunday.

Bombayla Devi and Deepika Kumari are yet to compete in the individual rounds.
