F2 sweeps Cignal to capture PSL All-Filipino crown

F2 Logistics wasted no time in dispatching Cignal HD in Game 2, 25-14, 25-16, 25-19 to win the Philippine SuperLiga All-Filipino Conference title on Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.

The Cargo Movers had little trouble claiming the championship that had eluded them in the last two years as they maintained splendid play from start to finish.

F2 lost the last two titular series against rival Petron in the same conference.

Once they got their bearings going in the opening frame, zooming to a 23-10 advantage, it looked like there was no stopping the well-oiled Cargo Movers.

They put up spectacular plays on both ends, with Kim Dy denying a Jovelyn Gonzaga attack that gave the Cargo Movers a commanding 20-9 buffer.

The HD Spikers put up some fight in the third frame. Mylene Paat highlighted that surge with back-to-back attacks to move to within four, 19-23.

Des Cheng's attack then went long, but F2 head coach Ramil de Jesus challenged the call and the officials subsequently overturned it after review, putting the Cargo Movers at championship point, 24-19.

With the championship on the line, F2 then turned to open spiker Kalei Mau, who delivered the backrow attack that sealed the deal for the Cargo Movers.

Mau, who was hailed this conference's Most Valuable Player, finished with game-high 19 points, 17 on attacks. Dy added 13 points including four blocks while Ara Galang and Majoy Baron combined for 12 points.

"I'm really thankful. This is such an indescribable feeling. I actually never felt this way before. So much love, so much support. It's a great accomplishment for me and my team," Mau said.

The HD Spikers, who were sensational in the semifinals after dethroning erstwhile champion Petron behind Rachel Ann Daquis and Gonzaga, struggled offensively.

Gonzaga led Cignal with nine points and Alohi Robins-Hardy contributed seven to go with 20 excellent sets.

Tuesday's tour-de-force performance was in stark contrast to their victory in the series opener, where the Cargo Movers were pushed to the limit before running away with a hard-fought 25-22, 26-24, 18-25, 17-25, 15-8 against the HD Spikers.

Meanwhile, Mau was joined in the tournament's Dream Team by Cignal's Alohi Robins-Hardy (best setter), Daquis (1st best outside spiker), and Jeck Dionela (best libero); Foton's twin towers Dindin Santiago-Manabat (best opposite spiker) and Jaja Santiago (1st best middle blocker); Petron's Sisi Rondina (2nd best outside spiker) and F2's Majoy Baron (2nd best middle blocker).
