SUBIC - Hermie Macaranas was an emotional wreck on Friday. But it was a different story a day later.
Macaranas was all smiles as he atoned for his blunder the previous day, striking his first gold in the 30th Southeast Asian Games after lording over the men's singles 200m event of canoe kayak on Saturday at the Malawaan Park.
The 19-year-old logged 43.60 to beat Myanmar's Myo Hlaing (43.75) and Vietnam's Anh Duc Duong (44.43) who nabbed the silver and bronze, respectively.
Macaranas was almost inconsolable on Friday after partner Reymart Nevado failed to finish the race when their boat capsized midway through the course.
After copping the gold, Macaranas added another to his personal medal haul after joining forces with OJ Fuentes to snag the silver medal in the men's doubles 200m.
They registered 41.08, while Indonesian counterparts Mehue Spens Stuvber and Marjuki trailed behind (40.33) for the silver. Vietnam's Quoc Toan Nguyen and Ngoc Sang Phan at 41.30 took the bronze.
"I'm really happy. Words can't really describe how happy I am," said Macaranas.
Later that afternoon, Macaranas and the rest of the 22-man team settled for bronze in the 200m traditional boat race.
