The Philippine Malditas fell to a pair of late goals against Myanmar, 2-1, in the bronze medal match of the 2019 South East Asian Games women's football tournament at the Rizal Memorial Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
An aggressive Malditas team took the fight to the Burmese squad early, electing to pile the pressure on the visitors from the opening whistle.
The best chance of the half came in the 39th minute when Sarina Bolden's attempt from a tight corner just bounced off the upright. A minute later, Bolden saw a headed attempt from a free kick soar above the bar.
Despite getting in threatening positions on numerous occasions, the Philippines could not find the opener in the first 45 minutes.
The Philippines' pressure finally paid off in the 57th minute after Quinley Quezada got on the score sheet. Bolden got on the end of an incisive pass from the midfield before feeding an onrushing Quezada for the opening goal.
The Philippines continued to have chances to extend their lead, with Bolden having a goal chalked off after being ruled offside and hitting the side netting in the 74th minute.
Myanmar almost grabbed the equalizer in the 76th minute, but keeper Inna Palacios denied a goal-bound free kick near the top corner.
The Burmese side fired a quickfire double to silence the home supporters after July Kyaw converted a header and Yee Yee Oo tucked in a shot underneath Palacios in the 78th and 80th minutes, respectively.
The shellshocked Malditas continued to search for an equalizing goal in the final ten minutes, but could not break the Myanmar back line anew.
