Wayamba were the dominant team in the league phase but have come up short when it mattered. They were expected to crush Uva, but they slumped to 27 for 7 before an extraordinary partnership between Azhar Mahmood and Isuru Udana brought them close to a miraculous victory. There was no miracle, though, and Uva held on to become the first side into the SLPL final. Gul bowled a momentum-robbing 19th over to virtually kill off Wayamba's chances.

Mahela Jayawardene: " We made too many mistakes on the field, a bad day to make mistakes. They kept a lot of pressure on us, they played better cricket than us. We played some really good cricket, but it was just one of those days."

Thilina Kandamby: "We knew Wayamba would be difficult to beat. Azhar was batting really well, but we knew we had the bowlers with experience with Umar and Andrew."

Man of the Match is Jacob Oram: "I had a bit of cramp. The wickets have surprised me, I came here expecting some slow, low turners, but they are quite nice to bowl some seamers on. So far so good, but the big one is still to come."
