Nuggets' Jamal Murray to launch Aussie NBA store

Australian NBA fans will have an opportunity to meet Denver Nuggets guard, Jamal Murray at the brand-new NBA store at the Emporium in Melbourne later this month.

Recently opened, the store is the first of its kind in Australia, as the NBA and Fanatics announce a multiyear deal to open NBA stores in Australia.

Following on from the launch in Melbourne, a Sydney NBA store will open this month.

Jerseys, hats, and other NBA/WNBA merchandise will be on offer for basketball fans, with major brands such as Nike, Mitchell & Ness, New Era and Wilson featured. There will also be customised options for jerseys and hats, with the flagship stores to be operated by Lids.

"Lids is thrilled to collaborate with the NBA to bring its first NBA flagship stores to Australia. Australia is one of the strongest international markets for the NBA and has a pedigree of producing great players. Both stores will offer the widest variety of NBA products for fans, who will also be able to individualize their products through custom embroidery on their purchases," Lids president, Britten Maughan said via an NBA release.

"The first brick-and-mortar NBA Stores in Australia reflect our continued commitment to engaging fans in Australia, who are among the most passionate in the world," said NBA Asia Vice President, Global Merchandising Lesley Rulloda via an NBA release.

"We recognize the appetite for all things NBA in Australia, and our collaboration with Fanatics and Lids will help us meet the growing demand for NBA and WNBA team-branded products by offering expansive physical retail spaces for fans to come together and celebrate their shared love of the game."

Murray will make his first trip to Australia, with the Canadian star preparing to make a return to the court for the 2022-23 season after ACL surgery kept him sidelined a season ago. Murray will visit the Melbourne store on Tuesday, August 16.

The 25-year-old averaged 21.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.8 assists in 2020-21 before suffering the long-term injury.

As well as the onsite locations, NBA merchandise and apparel can be found for all 30 teams at NBAstore.com.au.
