Pichot to lead Pumas at World Cup

Argentina coach Marcelo Loffreda has unveiled his squad for this year's World Cup in France.

Veteran scrum-half Agustin Pichot will captain the 30-man Pumas squad that also includes the familiar names of Leinster fly-half Felipe Contepomi and Stade Francais full-back Juan Martin Hernandez.

Loffreda brought forward the naming of his squad, which includes 13 backs and 17 forwards, due to tension within the camp and admitted it had been a very difficult task to make his final selection.

Pichot, who will be 33 next month, is the sole surviving member of the Argentina squad that travelled to South Africa for RWC'95.

Horacio Agulla and Federico Serra were amongst the surprise selections having been originally omitted from the 41-man preliminary squad that was named at the start of the month.

Following their training camp in the United States the squad will continue their preparations in Buenos Aires before returning to Europe to face Wales on August 13.

The Pumas have been drawn in Pool D alongside France, Ireland, Georgia and Namibia and will kick off the tournament against the hosts on September 7.
