Michelle Morente and Fritz Gallenero of F2 Logistics topped Pool D after sweeping both of their matches in the Philippine Superliga (PSL) Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup on Thursday at the Sands SM By the Bay.
The Cargo Movers torched from the service zone on their way to a 21-16, 21-11 victory over Marge Tejada and Denice Tan of Cocolife (Team B).
The duo maintained an unblemished record as they took down Jonah Sabete and Bianca Lizares of Sta. Lucia (Team B), 21-16, 21-16 later on.
Last years' runner-up Fiola Ceballos and Patty Orendain of Generika-Ayala (Team A) also moved to the quarterfinals after defeating Nene Bautista and Danika Gendrauli of Cocolife (Team B), 21-7, 21-18.
Determined to rebound from their previous loss, the Lifesavers got off to a rousing start and used that momentum to finish the game in two sets.
"This was an important game because it was do-or-die. If we lost, it would have been over for us, so we really needed to win," said Ceballos.
Twins Nieza and Jeziela Viray of Foton defeated Cecilia Bangad and Caitlyn Viray of Smart, 21-10, 21-17, to lead Pool C with a 2-0 slate.
Cherry Vivas and Janine Navarro of Cignal (Team B) eliminated Smart from contention after three grueling sets 18-21, 22-20, 15-13.
Meanwhile, Jackie Estoquia and DM Demontaño of Sta. Lucia (Team A) downed Bang Pineda and Sheeka Espinosa of Generika-Ayaka (Team B), 21-14, 21-19, to finish unbeaten in the pool play.
