What happened in Week 4 of MPL 2018

Four teams successfully shook up the standings in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League - Philippines 2018 after four weeks of action.

First, Finesse Solid, the team that found themselves struggling at the bottom of the table before their fateful and crucial win against the titans, Bren Esports. This wasn't just your regular win, it was an upset. One that gave Finesse Solid the necessary boost in morale and confidence.

This week, they opened against one of the fan favorites and a team that sat in third, Execration. While definitely a formidable foe, the confidence from the previous week was enough to give Finesse Solid the edge.

Both teams went through the full three games. Finesse Solid won the first game by dismantling Execration through pickoffs and well-timed use of Kaja's Divine Judgment. Execration answered back in Game 2 with Z4pnu showing his skill with Lancelot. Following the loss, Finesse Solid fell back to more comfortable picks in the final game, giving Gusion to Karl and Lolita to Boo, both of which played a part in their Game 1 victory. The comfort picks plus a Thamuz to stop the split push of the Helcurt was enough for Finesse Solid to close out the series with the same control they showed in the first game.

Day 2 was much more straightforward as they ended with a clean sweep against the struggling HappyFeet giving them a total of four points to end the week.

Meanwhile, Aether Main, a team that had struggled to live up to the standard that their predecessors had left from Season 1, entered Week 4 in seventh just barely keeping within playoff range and set to face both ArkAngel squads, ArkAngel Ownage and ArkAngel Wicked Minds. Both of which sat above and below Aether Main entering Week 4. Ownage settled one point ahead of Aether Main while Wicked Minds found themselves below by a point.

Aether Main opened with the seemingly weaker of the two sister squads, ArkAngel Wicked Minds. Even with a Hayabusa pick from Wicked Minds in Game 2, Aether Main proved the stronger of the two teams as they closed out the series in two games. It was L3bron that showcased his skill on the burst mage Harley in both games and came out with a total Kill-Death-Assist record of 18-1-9, dying only once in Game 2.

While against ArkAngel Ownage it was Crypt that led the charge with Akai and Kaja. They were used to single out members of Ownage with Akai's Hurricane Dance and Kaja's Divine Judgment. These pickoffs gave Aether Main an insurmountable lead and led to the sweep.

Cignal Ultra has looked impressive so far but sat in fourth coming into the week. While unlike the other three teams, Cignal Ultra had only one game but it was against the second best team after Week 3, SXC Imbalance. The matchup looked relatively close on paper but Cignal Ultra proved a better oiled team as they swept SXC Imbalance clean.

It was Pheww that led Cignal Ultra in both games using Leomord and Martis in the first and second game, respectively. He showed his mastery of both heroes as he pushed the limit of both heroes time and time again, winning duels that easily could've gone against him.

Cignal Ultra made the most of the single game and ended their week with three points. While it doesn't seem much, it was enough to put themselves ahead of SXC Imbalance and remain to be the only unbeaten team left in the league.

Execration, despite the loss in Day 1 bounced back and made the most out of their week. The fan favorites swept the struggling White Rascals.Alliance in Day 2 and did so in style by picking a Kimmy in Game 1 and Belerick in Game 2. This allowed Execration to end their week with a total of four points, enough to put them in second, ahead of Cignal Ultra and SXC Imbalance.
Week 4 left a lot of teams closer to each other than ever before. One point separates the top two teams, Bren Esports and Execration; three teams share fourth, SXC Imbalance, Aether Main, and Finesse Solid; and two teams continue to share ninth, ArkAngel Wicked Minds and HappyFeet. With two weeks to go in the regular season, each point will be crucial for every team across the board.
