Brewers top Rays to capture first World Series in franchise history (1:48)

For the first time in franchise history, the Milwaukee Brewers are World Series champions.

The Brewers' title came in dominant fashion, as Milwaukee completed a 4-1 series win over the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday night following a 4-1 victory. Milwaukee spread its production across the first six innings with one run each in the second and fifth before two in the sixth. Brewers ace Jacob Misiorowski exited after 5⅔ innings, giving up two hits and no runs. Their bullpen handled the rest, giving up one run and closing out the Rays at Tropicana Field in front of a heavy contingent of Brewers fans.

Milwaukee won a franchise-record 103 regular-season games. The Brewers are now the third team in MLB history with their first 100-win season and their first World Series title in the same year, joining the 1910 Athletics and 1969 New York Mets, according to ESPN Research.

The state of Wisconsin was fired up about the hometown ballclub finally getting over the hump and bringing home a title. Other local teams in the Badger State shouted out the Brew Crew. Former Brewer CC Sabathia and Wisconsin native J.J. Watt chimed in, too, leading reaction to Milwaukee's championship.
