Italian Super 10 Round-Up

There were no wins for the top teams on Day 5 of the Italian Super Ten.

Top of the table Parma and Treviso, both suffered away defeats for the second time this season as did Calvisano in L'Aquila, holding on to third place, just one point behind the leaders.

Treviso lost in Padova, 14-12, with the winners scoring the only try of the day by lock Alessandro Giacon, after a quick slalom by Brendan Williams in midfield. Treviso replied with four penalties by Simon Mason but it was a drop goal in injury time by Petrarca's fly half Dario Zanato to give the home team a well deserved victory, not necessarily in terms of quality but certainly for passion and commitment.

The day also saw Rome surge back against Parma, 28-23, after last week's heavy defeat, 61-5, in Treviso.
Big spender Parma who during the summer signed no less than fifteen new players including former England internationals Steve Ojomoh and Adebayo Adebayo, once again proved to be bad travellers by putting on a poor performance in Rome.

Australian flay half Antony Merlo kicked 23 points for the winners while a late try by Parma's scrum half Filippo Frati, converted by Corrado Pilat, clinched them a point for going down by less than a seven point margin.

L'Aquila won their second game of the season, 19-15, beating a lethargic Calvisano at home, while Viadana pounded inconsistent Rovigo, 37-8 and GR.A.N. put away Bologna, 23-19, giving the losers their second point on the table despite their string of five defeats since the beginning of the season.
