Wasps linked again to Olympic Stadium move

London Wasps could yet link up with Leyton Orient FC as co-tenants of London's Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games.

The Evening Standard in London reports that Wasps turned down the idea earlier this year, but are re-evaluating a revised offer which includes changes to the stadium configuration.

At present the Heineken Cup champions ground-share at Wycombe Wanderers FC in High Wycombe in Buckinghamshire, north-west of the capital, and both clubs are asking the local council to back a new 20,000-capacity stadium that would cost around £40million.

Whether it is a bargaining tool, or a genuine plan, a move to east London for Wasps would be a major wrench after they had built support in Wycombe after their previous move from QPR FC's Loftus Road in west London.

And Wasps' chief executive, Tony Copsey, said there are "half a dozen" options open to the club.

The 80,000-seat Olympic Stadium will be reduced in capacity to 25,000 after the Games - and would retain an athletics track around the pitch - and any club moving in would not do so until the 2013-14 season.

Other possible groundshares for Wasps are said to include a proposed new stadium for Brentford near Kew Bridge, close to their training headquarters in Acton.

However, London Irish are also said to fancy that idea when their tenancy at the Madejski Stadium in Reading is up in 2010.

Wasps also say they have yet to receive any official approach from Wales for permission to speak to Shaun Edwards, their head coach, about a role with the national team.
