Samoa and Australia have cause to celebrate after being crowned the men's and women's Oceania Sevens champions to secure their places at the Rugby World Cup Sevens in Dubai next March.
They will be joined there by Tonga and New Zealand, who by reaching the men's and women's finals respectively had guaranteed themselves one of the two qualifying spots available in each competition from the Oceania region.
Oceania will now have five particpants in the 24-team men's draw with defending RWC Sevens champions Fiji, New Zealand and Australia qualifying automatically by virtue of reaching the Cup quarter-finals at the 2005 tournament in Hong Kong.
Samoa, a core team on the IRB Sevens World Series, lived up to their billing as favourites on home soil at Apia Park on Saturday by overwhelming Tonga 52-0 in the Cup final with Ofisa Treviranus, Alatasi Tupou and Alafoti Fa'osiliva scoring two tries apiece.
Australia's victory was not so convincing with Nicole Beck's try on the stroke of full-time securing a 22-15 victory over New Zealand, but both should be among the title contenders at the first ever RWC Sevens women's competition.
Their RWC Sevens qualification hopes may have ended with semi-final losses, but Cook Islands and Fijiana ended the tournament on a high by beating Niue 33-15 and Samoa 24-7 in the men's and women's third place playoffs.
In the men's Plate final, Papua New Guinea defeated Solomon Islands 19-12, with Vanuatu finishing seventh after beating Tahiti 24-0.
