Chantelle Cameron is eyeing a fight against Claressa Shields and said she would love to "roll the dice" and step up to fight the five-division champion next following her win over Mikaela Mayer.
Cameron (23-1, 8 KOs) became unified junior middleweight champion with a unanimous points win over Mayer (22-3, 5 KOs) in Birmingham on Saturday.
In the ring after the fight, Mayer insisted she won, saying Cameron was "lucky" the bout was in the UK as the two came together in a tense interaction. Later, the American apologised on social media for "poor sportsmanship."
Prior to the fight, which was a close contest that lived up to expectation, both had entertained the idea of a possible second fight an even a trilogy.
Mayer had also openly called for a fight with Shields (19-0, 4 KOs), who stopped Kaye Scott to claim the WBO and WBC middleweight titles earlier this month.
But, after Saturday's fight, Shields took to social media and indicated she now wants to face Cameron, saying "if you'd like to rumble let me know."
Cameron said she would ideally like to return to the ring before the end of the year but a cut sustained above her left eye against Mayer could present her fighting until early 2027.
A fight against Shields would likely come with a significant step up in weight for Cameron. Shields, who also holds the undisputed heavyweight crown, has indicated she would not come down to compete below 160 pounds.
Asked if it's still a fight she would want at middleweight, Cameron told ESPN: "I've only been to 150 [pounds] and obviously it's not comfortable, but again, it's Claressa Shields. She is the champ, she is the GOAT. So you got to do what you got to do.
"If my team was OK with it, I'd take the challenge. Obviously it would be giving a lot away but again, for the experience of it, it's worth it. You've got to roll the dice, don't you?"
While the fight against Mayer was for the junior middleweight belts, a 148 pound catchweight was in place.
However, Cameron said the opportunity to fight one of the greatest women's fighters of all time would be too good an opportunity to pass up, even if it meant moving up to 160lbs.
"I say it all the time and I've got no reason to say she isn't because I think what she's achieved in her career ... I think she's untouchable. That's crazy I'm like: 'I'll step in the ring with her,' but you've got to dare to be great," Cameron said.
"If I fight Claressa Shields, what a legacy that will be for me. Look at the names I'll have on my resume. And if I did get the chance to fight with Claressa Shields, what a fight that would be. The magnitude of the fight will be the biggest fight I've ever been in. It'll be something that I could only dream of. So I just hope the teams can make it happen.
"So, here I am, I'm up for the challenge against Claressa Shields. And if Mayer wanted the Claressa Shields fight, well ... I'll take the challenge and I think it'll be an amazing night."
Cameron was pleased with her performance against Mayer and said she felt in control for the majority of the battle.
"I was having fun. I genuinely was enjoying myself. I always knew it was going to be a close fight because again, I respect Mayer. She's a great boxer and she's a great fighter," Cameron said.
"I knew it wasn't going to be an easy night, but I felt really comfortable. I felt like I was in control and I did everything that I was supposed to do."
